ABC News is continuing to investigate the russias piping tip scandals.
The ABC has learned that the US embassy in Moscow was not properly investigating the tip.
The FBI, which is leading the investigation, said the FBI had investigated the issue but had not found any conclusive evidence.
The FBI did say that a tipster who had been a Russian intelligence officer in the US had shared with them information about the tipster.ABC News has learned from sources inside the FBI that an intelligence analyst had shared information about a tip about the Russian tipster with the FBI.
ABC News has also learned that FBI agents in Washington have spoken to people who work for the Russian Embassy in Washington about the problem.
The tipster, who is now in Russia, told the FBI about the possible Russian connections in January.
ABC says that the Russian intelligence agent in the Washington, DC, office told FBI agents that he had been working with a US Embassy security officer and another Russian officer to “make contact” with a person he thought was Russian intelligence, but it is unclear whether that person is a Russian spy.ABC also has learned the FBI has spoken to the FBI director, James Comey, about the issue.
Comey told reporters on Tuesday that he was “aware of the issue” and had been in touch with the Russians about it.ABC’s John Santucci contributed to this report.
