The latest in the saga of the deadly coronavirus that has infected more than 11,000 people in India has also been revealed, with the first cases being reported in the western state of Kerala.
More than 1,000 cases of coronaviruses are confirmed across the country, but a total of 4,800 deaths have been reported.
The latest figure is a sharp jump from the previous day, when there were only 300 reported cases.
In the latest report, the Indian government said a total 2,000 deaths were reported from the country.
India reported an average of 7,700 deaths per day during the pandemic.
“We will not rest until we find the virus’s origin and stop its spread,” said Health Minister Anand Sharma, who was in Kerala on Saturday to announce the latest figures.
India has had a record-breaking year in coronaviral deaths.
In the first nine months of this year, the country reported 3,827 deaths, and 1,638 of those were in India.
